Samsonite - Definition and Overview

Samsonite is the world's largest maker of luggage. Making everything from large suitcases to smaller toiletries bags. The company was founded in Denver, Colorado in 1910 by Jesse Shwayder. Originally named the Trunk Manufacturing Company. Samsonite was launched as a brand in 1941 based on the Biblical character Samson, renowned for his strength. The brand, most notable for being the first suitcases to use fake leather to make attractive, but also cheap, luggage. The company would soon change its name to match that of the successful brand.
