Santiago del Estero Province - Definition and Overview

Santiago del Estero is a province of Argentina, located in the north of the country. The capital is Santiago del Estero. The province has a population of 804,457 (2001), and covers an area of 136,351 km². Neighboring provinces are from the north clockwise Salta, Chaco, Santa Fe, Córdoba, Catamarca and Tucumán. Sierras de Guasayan rise on West and Sierras de Ambargasta y Sumampa on the South. Two main rivers cross the province of North-South: The Dulce River and The Salado River.

The province is divided in 27 departments (spanish departamentos)
