Sara Evans - Definition

Sara Evans (born February 5, 1971, in Boonville, Missouri) is a country music singer.

Biography

Evans was raised on a farm near New Franklin, Missouri. Music has always been a part of her life and by age five was singing every weekend in her family's band. When she was sixteen, she began performing at a nightclub near Columbia, Missouri, a gig that lasted two years.

She moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 1991 with the goal of becoming a country artist. That year she met Craig Schelske there and a year later moved to Oregon. They were involved both professionally and personally. Craig and Sara were married in 1993 and they returned to Nashville in 1995. Sara began recording demos. Songwriter Harlan Howard heard Sara's demo of one of his songs and decided she should be the one to sing his music. She went under contract with RCA.

Evans was the most nominated artist at the 2001 Country Music Association awards, and won her fist CMA award when her song “Born to Fly” won the award for Video of the Year.

Evans performed at the Republican National Convention on August 23, 2004. She has two children, Avery and Olivia, and has expected her third child, Audrey Nicole, in September, 2004.
