The term scanner has several meanings:

• In radio, a scanner is a device for searching for and receiving radio broadcasts.
• An image scanner is a general-purpose device which digitises a two-dimensional image.
• A barcode scanner reads the data encoded in a barcode.
• The term "scanner" is also used in medical imaging.
• In computer security, a vulnerability scanner is a computer program to probe a remote system, typically to discover vulnerabilities.
