Scary Movie - Definition and Overview

Scary Movie (2000), an American film directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans, is a comedy, horror, and mystery. It parodies several other movies, including The Sixth Sense, I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Matrix, and the Scream trilogy.

It was promoted with the tagline No mercy. No shame. No sequel., with the last reference being to the tendency of popular horror movies to become long-running franchises. However, in 2001 Scary Movie 2 was released. Then in 2003 a second sequel, Scary Movie 3 was released. Scary Movie 4 is in production as of 2004.
