Scat has several different meanings:

  • Scat singing is an improvisational vocal technique in jazz, developed by trumpet virtuoso Louis Armstrong, in which nonsensical syllables or words are sung, often as part of a call-and-response interaction with other musicians. See Ska for Jamaican voice music.
