School Rumble - Definition and Overview

School Rumble is a manga serialized in the Weekly Shonen Magazine, drawn by Jin Kobayashi. It is currently animated and broadcasted by TV Tokyo.

It is about what happens to high school student Tsukamoto Tenma, her friends and her classmates.

Beside the main story, there are "♭" or B-stories, which are stories which happen at the same time frame as the main story in other perspectives or to other characters.

Recently, as of the 6th and 7th volumes of the manga, the plot of the story has differed greatly from the beginning. While Harima Kenji is still the male protagonist, Tsukamoto Yakumo and Sawachika Eri have replaced Tsukamoto Tenma as the female protagonists, so the story mainly focuses on their relationships. Tsukamoto Tenma and Karasuma Ooji are seldom shown, and are very unimportant or minor even if they do appear. This is due to the fact that, the character popularity poll conducted in Japan resulted with Sawachika Eri as the first and Tsukamoto Yakumo as the second. Their supporters greatly surpassed those who votes for Tsukamoto Tenma, ranked third in the poll.

Characters

• Tsukamoto Tenma - Female protagonist, a grade 2 high school student in class 2C who loves Karasuma Ooji.
• Harima Kenji - Male protagonist, delinquent. Classmate of Tsukamoto Tenma, whom he is in love with.
• Tsukamoto Yakumo - Sister of Tsukamoto Tenma, a grade 1 high school student in class 1D. She is able to read the thoughts of those who like her.
• Karasuma Ooji - A class 2C student, Curry über alles.
• Takano Akira - classmate and good friend of Tenma. Likes to save money.
• Sawachika Eri - classmate and good friend of Tenma. Father is English. Has great difficulty with Kanji.
• Suou Mikoto - classmate and good friend of Tenma. Has black belt in Kenpo.
• Hanai Haruki - classmate of Tenma. Good friend of Suou. Has black belt in Kenpo too.
• Ichijou Karen - classmate of Tenma. Has monstrous strength despite her infirm outlook.
