Sci Fi Channel (United States) - Definition and Overview

The name "Sci Fi" also is used by a British satellite television channel; see Sci Fi channel (United Kingdom).

Sci Fi is an American cable television channel, launched in 1992 and currently owned by corporate conglomerate NBC Universal, specializing in science fiction, fantasy, horror and paranormal programming. Some of its programming includes:

• Battlestar Galactica (miniseries, December 2003; series, January 2005)
• Black Scorpion
• Farscape
• Ghost Hunters
• Lexx
• Mad Mad House
• Mission Genesis (aka Deepwater Black in other countries)
• Mystery Science Theater 3000 (seasons 8-10)
• Proof Positive
• The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne
• Sliders (A FOX original series for the first three seasons, but the fourth and fifth seasons were produced for The Sci Fi channel)
• Stargate SG-1 (formerly a Showtime original series)
• Stargate Atlantis (spinoff series of Stargate SG-1)
• Tremors, the series (based on three previous movies)
• Tripping the Rift
• Scare Tactics

Sci Fi second-run programming

The Sci Fi channel has a long history of buying the rights to air second-run, or repeat progamming of series no longer in production. Some of these include:

• Star Trek: The Original Series
• The Twilight Zone (original version)
• The X-Files
