The Science Museum of Minnesota is located in the state's capital city of Saint Paul and focuses on presenting topics in technology and natural history. Around the year 2000, the museum moved from its old complex to a modern one on a bluff
overlooking the Mississippi River. The new building features a dual-screen IMAX/Omnimax theater, with both a wall screen for IMAX films, and a rotatable dome for viewing Omnifilms. The counterweights were so massive that they had to be put in place before the rest of the building.
The museum acquired the collection of the Museum of Questionable Medical Devices when its founder Bob McCoy retired from the job in 2002. Items from the collection have been featured in programs on The History Channel and other places.
