Scotland national rugby league team - Definition and Overview

Scotland rugby league team shirt

There is comparatively little rugby league played in Scotland, and what there is at an amateur level only. Consequentially, selection policy for the national team, nicknamed the Bravehearts, has swithered between domination by second-generation professional players, born and bred in England, and home-grown players from the national competition.

Scotland is represented in the European Nations Cup; since 2000 they have also competed in the World Cup, having previously played in the Emerging Nations Tournament. At full test level, Scottish players represent Great Britain, perhaps the most famous example being Dave Valentine, who captained Britain to World Cup glory, in 1954.

The team is run under the joint auspices of the Rugby Football League and Scotland Rugby League.
