The SdKfz 222 is a light 4x4 armored car similar to the SdKfz 221. It has an open-topped turret with wire mesh anti-grenade screens, and is armed with a 2cm gun. A 7.92mm MG34 machine gun is provided on the turret top for local air defence. Unlike the 221, it includes a third crew member as the gunner, relieving the commander of this task.
