Selphie Tilmitt is a playable character in Squaresoft's (now known as Square-Enix) RPG Final Fantasy VIII.

Selphie's first appearance in the game comes when she runs into Squall Leonhart while late for her class. She asks Squall to show her around because she has just transferred to Balamb Garden from Trabia Garden.

Selphie's next appearance happens during the SeeD test. Selphie is a messenger for her squad, and was ordered to tell all the other squads to report to the beach at a certain time. Selphie chases after the squad consisting of Squall, Zell Dincht, and Seifer Almasy, and her full motion video entrance shows her tripping and falling down a cliff before them. She joins the party once Seifer runs off.

She is often seen as ditzy and stupid, but is actually quite talented when it comes to computers and machinery. She runs her own website, is able to disarm missiles, and can fly an airship.

Spunky and girlish, Selphie seems misplaced as part of an elite military academy, but she is actually a valuable asset to the party. She uses oversized nunchaku in battle. Her limit break is Slot, which consists of using any randomly selected magic spell a random number of times, as well as four special skills which can only be used once per limit:

  • Full-Cure, which revives your whole party to max hit points,
  • Wall, which serves as a barrier against magic used on your party,
  • Rapture, which gives the enemy wings and flies them out of battle, or
  • The End, which is considered one of the most powerful limit breaks in Final Fantasy VIII. It will kill any monster (excluding the undead, but including bosses) instantly.

A younger version of Selphie also appears as a non-player character in the game Kingdom Hearts.
