Seminole County is a county located in the state of Georgia. As of 2000, the population is 9,369. The county's county seat is Donalsonville, Georgia6.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 664 km² (257 mi²). 617 km² (238 mi²) of it is land and 48 km² (19 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 7.22% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 9,369 people, 3,573 households, and 2,597 families residing in the county. The population density is 15/km² (39/mi²). There are 4,742 housing units at an average density of 8/km² (20/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 61.75% White, 34.66% Black or African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.79% from other races, and 0.45% from two or more races. 3.70% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,573 households out of which 29.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.10% are married couples living together, 17.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.30% are non-families. 24.30% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.54 and the average family size is 3.01.
