In navigation set and drift are external forces acting upon a ship that make it deviate from its intended course. Set is the angle at which the ship deviates; drift is the speed, in knots, at which it deviates. Set and drift can be caused by any external force, but normally they are caused by tidal current, windage, and helmsman error.
