A shadowman (also known as a shadow man or shadow person or shadow being) is a humanoid black shape, believed to be of hallucinatory, illusionary, delusional, or possibly metaphysical origin. A potential topic for optics or cryptozoology, shadowmen are described as all-black figures, with an almost cloak like silhouette, sometimes also with red eyes. Most commonly, people will perceive one at the edge of their field of vision that will dissapear upon closer inspection - however many also report seeing them in the center of their vision, appearing to be very close to the witness, and sometimes remaining there for several seconds before disappearing.
Although the shapes are distorted and seen from different angles, their shape is clearly that of a biped very similar to a human. Like a shadow, some claim that they appear to have only two dimensions. One metaphysical theory for this phenomon is that shadowmen may exist in some other 'dimension' and, when passing through our world, can only manifest in two dimensions. Others however, claim that the figures are fully three dimensional, but most often vaporous or "shadowy" in appearance (hence the name). Like many such apparently paranormal phenomena, there is much debate over the cause of "shadowmen".
