Shaitan Shaitan

Shaitan - Definition and Overview

Shaitan is the Islamic word for "Adversary". Could possibly be a derivation of Satan, in Islam known as Iblis. The adversary of Allah is called by this name or title in the Qur'an.

In the Dune novel, Shaitan is the name used also for Satan, the evil side of Shai-hulud

Also the main evil force in the The Wheel of Time, although spelled Shai'tan. Saying its true name brings bad luck. Most commonly called the Dark One. For more details, see Dark Characters in the Wheel of Time.

In Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian "sejtan" (pronounced Sheitan) means the devil/Luficer/satan. It is thought to be a turkish word imported to the language, like many other words during the Ottoman rule.
