Story

Chon Wang's (Jackie Chan) father gets murdered. His sister witnesses the murder, and sends a Lock puzzle to him where he is living as a sheriff in the wild west of the United States. He travels to New York to find his friend, Roy O'Bannon (Owen Wilson), who has squandered their fortune. They travel to London to find the murderer and his sister. Several adventures later, the bad guys, Lord Nelson Rathbone (Aidan Gillen), who desires to be the King of England, and Wu Chow (Donnie Yen), who desires to be the Emperor of China, are dispatched by Wang and his sister, Lin (Fann Wong). O'Bannon proves his bravery and his friendship to Chon.

The story ostensibly takes place during the 50th anniversary of Queen Victoria's reign (which would have occurred in 1887) and also references Arthur Conan Doyle leaving his post at Scotland Yard (Doyle never worked in law enforcement) to begin writing Sherlock Holmes novels (the first of which also happened to be released in 1887). However, there are also the anachronisms of an appearance by Jack the Ripper, who didn't begin murdering his victims until the following year, an automobile that was far more advanced than the rudiments of automobiles of the time and the story also featured a young thief, Charlie Chaplin, who wasn't even born until 1889.
