Shannon, born Brenda Shannon Greene, is well known for her 1983 smash dance record, "Let The Music Play". The record redefined the electro funk sound that Arthur Baker and John Robie (who produced IOU by Freeze and One More Shot/Get Wet by C-Bank) developed in 1982. Let The Music Play was produced by Chris Barbosa, a Puerto Rican from New York. It is well known as the first freestyle track, with a heavy syncopated drum sound with Latin American rhythms that wasn't so electro as the sound a year ago. But she did not earn the title, "Queen of Freestyle" as it eventually went to Judy Torres because she only released 3 albums then. Now, Shannon is making a quick comeback in the new millennium, with a reminiscent sound of the early days of freestyle.
