Shediac, New Brunswick - Definition

Shediac, New Brunswick is a town located at a Latitude of 46°13' North and Longitude of 64°32' West in Shediac Parish, Westmorland County, New Brunswick, Canada on Northumberland Strait. The population in 2001 was 4,892. The town's inhabitants are mostly Acadians, and 76% of the population speaks French in its local variant Chiac.

The town calls itself the "Lobster Capital of the World", and the world's largest lobster sculpture is situated at the main entrance to town. However, lobster stocks in the Northumberland Strait have been dwindling in recent years. Several restaurants still serve the dish, mostly to tourists that make Shediac one of the province's busiest tourist destinations

Also in Shediac is Parlee Beach, known for its sand bars and warm water; and the scenic wharf at Pointe-de-Chene.
