Shirley Ann Jackson - Definition and Overview

Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson (born August 5, 1946) is the 18th President of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Dr. Jackson holds a Ph.D. in theoretical elementary particle physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) (1973) and a S.B. in physics from M.I.T. (1968). Dr. Jackson was also the Chair of the United States Nuclear Regulatory Committee from 1995 to 1999. Dr. Jackson became the president of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in February 2004 and will chair the AAAS board in 2005.
