Shyriiwook is the language of the Wookiee people in the fictional Star Wars universe. To outsiders, a Wookiee speaking Shyriiwook would be making a series of growls and grunts.
While many Wookiees are able to understand Galactic Basic, the structure of their vocal cords prevents them from being able to speak in Basic. A few Wookiees had developed a "speech impediment" that allowed them to communicate with others in Basic.
Some non-Wookiees, such as Han Solo, are able to understand Shyriiwook. In Solo's case, since Chewbacca was able to understand Basic, he would speak to Chewbacca in Basic.
