 Simon Wiesenthal Center - Definition

The Simon Wiesenthal Center, established in 1977, is an international Jewish human rights organization dedicated to preserving the memory of the Holocaust. The Center confronts important contemporary issues including racism, anti-Semitism, terrorism, and genocide and is accredited as an non-governmental organization (NGO) both at the United Nations and UNESCO.

One of its projects is the original Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles, California, with newer versions in New York and Jerusalem. The organization is named after its founder Simon Wiesenthal, a former engineer and an Austrian Jew who lost many family members in the Holocaust, and later pledged to hunt down Nazis and bring them to justice.
