Singapore Area Licensing Scheme - Definition and Overview

The Singapore Area Licensing Scheme, introduced in 1975, charged drivers entering downtown Singapore, and thereby aimed to manage vehicle traffic. It is one of a number of anti-congestion policies that has operated in Singapore since the 1970s.

In September 1998, the Area Licensing Scheme was terminated as Singapore switched to the current Electronic Road Pricing system.
