Sitka deer - Definition and Overview

The Sitka deer , Odocoileus hemionus subspecies sitkensis, is a subspecies of Black-tailed Deer that inhabits northern British Columbia, Canada and southeastern Alaska, United States. It is characteristically smaller than other types of black-tailed deer, probably due in part to its typical island habitat. It is also a fairly good swimmer, and can occasionally be seen crossing deep channels between islands. It is named after Sitka, Alaska.
