Smoggies is derived from the Term "Smog Monsters" and is used by Geordies to refer to people from Teesside. It refers to the large amounts of industry in the area (on the decline these days) that produces large amounts of air pollution. It has been said that living on Teesside is equivalent to smoking 5 cigarettes a day!
