Snakeboards are a relatively new modification of the skateboard.
These variants have a central bar with two pivotant boards attached at each end. Wheels are attached to the ends as they do in normal boards. The user puts one foot on each pivotant board and by moving them in and out, they can move in a manner similar to that of a snake.
Snakeboards allow the users to move without putting their feet back on the ground. They add more degrees of freedom than a traditional skateboard for expressiveness on the board. Some snakeboards include fixation (rough surface) for the feet while others do not. This feature is not regarded as crucial as users rarely lose foot contact with the board.
Snakeboard was the name of the original company that manufactured the first boards of this kind and since it was the only company to sell this type of board the sport rapidly became known as snakeboarding. Today the sport is much more aggressive and with its actual name streetboarding now to present day there are a number of companies who support and manufacture streetboards that include: Frontal boarding, Dimension streetboards, Genesis streetboards, Flipside UK, Anderson streetboards, Snakeboard USA, along with various other teams and websites dedicated to the growth of the sport.
