Snecma Moteurs of France is one of the world's major aircraft engine suppliers. In January 2000 the Snecma Group was converted into a holding company, and its propulsion operations were spun off into a new company, Snecma Moteurs. Civil aircraft propulsionSnecma Moteurs' civil aviation business spans a range of engines developing from 18,500 to 110,000 lbf (82 to 489 kN) of thrust. These engines power short, medium and long-haul jetliners produced by both Airbus and Boeing. The company's major civil aircraft engine is the CFM International CFM56. CFM56 aircraft engines, produced by a partnership between Snecma Moteurs and General Electric that stretches back over 25 years, power more than 4,900 aircraft around the world. Today, one aircraft, which is powered by CFM56 engines, takes off somewhere in the world every four seconds. Snecma Moteurs is also the main partner for General Electric' CF6-80 and GE90 programs. Snecma Moteurs recently increased its presence in the high-thrust turbofan segment by joining the Engine Alliance GP7200 program managed by the Engine Alliance, a 50/50 joint venture of General Electric and Pratt & Whitney. This jet will power the Airbus A380. The company has entered into the PowerJet partnership with NPO Saturn of Russia, to provide SaM146 engines for the Russian Regional Jet program.
