Socialist Alliance (Australia) - Definition and Overview

The Socialist Alliance is an umbrella group of socialist parties in Australia. Unlike the Socialist Alliance in the United Kingdom, or the Anti-Capitalist Alliance in New Zealand, it is moving away from being an alliance and moving towards becoming a socialist party. This makes it more like the Scottish Socialist Party which started off as an alliance.

The Socialist Alliance was founded in February 2001 by the Democratic Socialist Party, the International Socialist Organisation, the Freedom Socialist Party, Workers Liberty, Workers Power, Socialist Democracy and the Workers League. It produces a monthly newsletter called Socialist Campaigner.
