Socialist Party (Senegal) - Definition and Overview

The Socialist Party of Senegal (Parti socialiste du Sénégal) was the ruling party in Senegal from independence in 1960 until 2000. It is led by former President Abdou Diouf, who lost the most recent presidential election to Abdoulaye Wade. The best-known figure of the PSS was the late poet and president, Léopold Sédar Senghor.

The Socialist Party is a member of the Socialist International.
