Socialist Party of Chile - Definition and Overview

The Socialist Party of Chile (Spanish: Partido Socialista de Chile) is a political party in Chile, and part of the ruling Concertation of Parties for the Democracy coalition. It has 10 deputies and 5 senators. It is currently led by Ricardo Núñez.

It was the party of president Salvador Allende, who was among its founders in 1933.

After the Chilean coup of 1973 it was proscribed (along with the rest of the political parties), and fractioned itself in several groups that would not reunite until after the return to civilian rule in 1990. See also: List of political parties in Chile, Politics of Chile
