Song For You - Definition and Overview |
A Song For You is a 1975 album by the Motown singing group The Temptations, considered one of their best overall efforts.
It features then lead singer Dennis Edwards on the title track written by Leon Russell. Russell was the one-time husband of Brenda Russell, herself a writer of such classics as "Piano In The Dark", "Get Here", and Donna Summer's comeback hit "Dinner With Gershwin".
Also featured is the bass singer Melvin Franklin on a track called Firefly.
This album features a familiar device of the time used to exhibit the versatility of 70's soul groups: one side featurs up-tempo cuts and the other side focuses on ballads. Several songs on side one such as "Glass House" and "Shakey Ground" featured P-Funk backed dance grooves, while side two had tracks such as "I'm A Bachelor" and "Memories", which that showcased the shimmeringly tight and seemingly effortless smoothness of Temptations' harmony and vocal blending.
