Southern Carpathians - Definition and Overview

Southern Carpathians (also called Transylvanian Alps; in Romanian: Carpaţii Meridionali) are located between the Prahova river in the east and the Timiş river and Cerna river in west.

Peaks

The highest peaks are:

  • Moldoveanu, 2,544 meters - Făgăraş Mountains
  • Negoiu, 2,535 meters - Făgăraş Mountains
  • Parângu Mare, 2,519 meters - Parâng Mountains
  • Peleaga, 2,509 meters - Retezat Mountains
  • Omu 2,507 meters - Bucegi Mountains
