Spike TV is a cable television network. Originally, this was The Nashville Network (TNN), with country programming such as The Dukes of Hazzard. Since late 2000, it was known as The National Network or The New TNN after being acquired by Viacom. The programming changed significantly.

Spike TV was marketed as the first television network for men, although this is not necessarily true, as networks such as Men TV existed far before Spike TV was even announced. The name change was supposed to coincide with its change in programming, including shows like Stripperella and the Ren & Stimpy Adult Party Cartoon, as well as MXC (formerly Most Extreme Elimination Challenge); however, on June 19, 2003, Spike Lee won a New York State Supreme Court injunction preventing the name change, which Lee feared viewers would associate with him.

On July 8, 2003, the suit was settled, and TNN was allowed to call itself Spike TV. The name change became official on August 11 of that same year. Spike TV operates as part of MTV Networks, owned by Viacom.
