Spam over Internet Telephony (spit) is the VoIP equivalent of unsolicited email — unwanted messages clogging up your voice mail box. No examples have yet been seen in the wild, but Qovia of Frederick, Maryland, have recently filed two patent applications for technology to thwart spit.
