St George's Cathedral Southwark is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Southwark, South London. It should not be confused with the Anglican Southwark Cathedral. The cathedral is the Mother Church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Southwark which covers the diocese of Southwark (all of London south of the River Thames including Kent and north Surrey) and the dioceses of Arundel and Brighton, Portsmouth, and Plymouth. The original cathedral was opened in 1848 as the first Catholic cathedral since the Reformation. It was designed by Pugin and badly bombed during World War II. The rebuilt cathedral was opened in 1958. It is situated opposite the Imperial War Museum on Lambeth Road. External link
