Standard Works of the LDS Church - Definition

The Standard Works of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) consists of several books that comprise its open, scriptural canon, and include the following:

  • The LDS Church uses the current edition of the King James Version (KJV) in English-speaking countries, although other versions may be used.

The current printings of the current editions of the standard works include a Bible dictionary, photographs, maps and gazeteer, topical guide, index, footnotes, cross references, excerpts from the Joseph Smith Translation of the Bible (JST) and other study aids.

The Church typically does not use the Apocrypha as part of its canon, although it was included when it was part of the KJV. Joseph Smith taught that most of the Apocrypha is true, but some of it was not factual. As such, it is not included in his translation of the Bible and not relied on for doctrine.
