Stanwell Park, New South Wales - Definition and Overview

Stanwell Park is a northern coastal village of the Wollongong plain, south of Sydney, Australia. The town is sandwiched between the Royal National Park and the Pacific Ocean. It was named after Mr. Gibbon's estate.

The area was originally inhabited by the Wodi Wodi Aborigines. The first Europeans in the area were the survivors of the wreck of the "Sydney Cove" in 1797. When George Bass travelled along the coast looking for other survivors, he discovered coal in the area at Coalcliff.
