StarDict is a free desktop dictionary that serves as a frontend to StarDict dictionary files. These StarDict files can be converted from DICT files. It runs under Linux, Microsoft Windows (with some bugs), FreeBSD, and Solaris and is released under a GPL license.
The program itself does not contain any dictionaries; the files must be installed separately. The user can choose which dictionaries are used.
While StarDict is running and in "scan mode", selected words will be looked up in the dictionaries, and all results will be displayed in a context menu. This allows extremely easy dictionary lookup, and combined with Freedict, can allow to quickly roughly understand foreign language websites.
