Game History

Star Wars MUSH began in May of 1991. On April 15th, 1994, the "Big Crash" occured, where the game's database was accidentally destroyed. What resulted was the "Split," where Star Wars MUSH was divided into three games; Star Wars MUSH remained as it was, and two other Star Wars MUSHes formed : A New Threat and Minos Cluster, later known as Unsung Heroes.

Star Wars MUSH was re-opened to the public on May 21st, 1994. On August 21st, 1996, the players of the game voted to a new server with a clean database, effectively starting over. The game is still continuing from that point.

Systems

Star Wars MUSH utilizes the DarrienSpace system as its space system, created by Brian Buhl, aka Darrien. It is very different from the popular HSpace system used on a majority of roleplay MUSHes, mainly that DarrienSpace is a 'softcoded' system whereas HSpace is built into the MUSH hardcode.

In early 2004 the game dropped its Virtual Object System (VOS), which had been in use for many years and provided the weapons and items, as well as the Character Generation, Language and Combat System, built into the game's hardcode. What replaced the weapons and items was the Zen Item System (ZIS), coded by Zen. A new Character Generation and Language system was implemented, but a new combat system has yet to emerge.

Roleplaying

Roleplaying is required on the MUSH. It is what makes the game up, what drives the story forward. One can roleplay in the ensuing Galactic Civil War, live the life of an independent civilian, a swoop racer, a criminal, bounty hunter, smuggler, just about anything.

Recent events include the liberation of Coruscant to the New Republic and a rebellion against the current Emperor, Malus, led by former officers in the Empire itself.

The game also features "Feature Characters" who participate in the roleplaying as well; these feature characters include Luke Skywalker, Lando Calrissian, Han Solo, Leia Organa Solo, and Chewbacca. In early 2005 a new feature was introduced, "Original Feature Characters" and so far include the players Jacob and Murdock. They play a similiar role to the "Feature Characters" but are obviously original to the MUSH.

There are two factions in the MUSH: the Galactic Empire and the New Republic. Two minor factions, organizations, are also available: the Caspar Democratic Union and the Corporate Sector Authority. The life of an independent is also available, where many opportunites await in the forms of dozens of businesses and smaller organizations, including: Black Sun, Communications Corporation, and Galactic Swoop League, to name a few.

There are also many planets set in the MUSH, accessible via the DarrienSpace system. The current planets in the Star Wars MUSH universe that are coded are:

  1. Athaniss
  2. Bonadan
  3. Bothawui
  4. Caspar

Game Legends

Since August of 1998 one or more player(s) are voted as "Legends", usually every three months, though there have been exceptions. A "Legend" is a player who has set him or her self above others through their roleplaying, activity and contributions to the MUSH, establishing themselves as the finest players on the MUSH.

Every month players issue nominations to those they've roleplayed with during the month. The player with the most nominations over a course of three months is picked as the Legend for those three months.
