Startide Rising is a 1983 sci-fi novel by David Brin and the second book of six set in his Uplift Universe.
This story is about the spaceship Streaker which is manned by neo-dolphins (dolphins genetically engineered to match human intelligence). The ship is being hunted by several alien races after having stumbled upon a derelict fleet whose identity is of vast historical and religious import to the alien civilizations.
