The State University of New York Institute of Technology (SUNYIT) is located just north of Utica, New York, USA. Historically an upper-division (i.e., offering the last two years of four-year bachelor's degree work) institution, SUNYIT accepted freshmen (first-year tertiary education students) in Fall 2003 into 11 bachelor’s degree programs: business, accounting, finance, applied mathematics, health services management, health information management, computer & information science, computer information systems, computer engineering technology, mechanical engineering technology, and industrial engineering technology. SUNYIT offers 20 bachelor’s degree programs to transfer students, and 11 master’s degree programs -- including a Master of Business Administration in Technology Management.

More than 25 years ago, the State University of New York decided to develop and support an institution specifically designed for graduates of its two-year community and technical colleges. A location was chosen just north of Utica, the geographic center of the state of New York, to provide easy access to transfer students from two-year colleges. SUNYIT was created in 1966 to serve this need. Today, SUNYIT enrolls about 2,600 students. They are enrolled in the Schools of Arts and Sciences, the School of Business and Public Management, the School of Information Systems and Engineering Technology, and the School of Nursing.

SUNYIT's intercollegiate athletic teams compete as the Wildcats in Division Three.
