State University of New York State College of Optometry - Definition and Overview

The State University of New York State College of Optometry was established in 1971 as a result of a legislative mandate of New York State, USA. It is located in Manhattan, New York City. It is the only institution of its kind in New York State.

The College offers the degrees Doctor of Optometry, and Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Vision Science. Continuing education courses for practicing optometrists are also provided by the College.

The Optometric Center of New York, established in 1956, is now affiliated with the College. The Optometric Center of New York supports vision science research, patient care and scholarships and fellowships at the College and its clinical facility, the University Optometric Center. The University Optometric Center provides optometric services to the surrounding community and others, and has resources unsurpassed in the United States for this type of institution.
