Sterling submachine gun - Definition and Overview

The Sterling is a British submachine gun which was in service with the British Army from the early 1950s to the late 1980s. It was made at the Royal Ordnance Factories (ROF) in Enfield (London) and Fazackerly (Nottingham). A Canadian version was also built.

    • L3A4 - Silenced version. Held in reserve.


A single shot version was used by British Police forces.

Trivia

The Sterling was used as the basis for both the Stormtrooper and Rebel weapons in the first Star Wars movie.
