Steve Rauschenberger is the State Senator from the Illinois' 22nd District. He was first elected to Illinois State Senate in 1993 and was appointed to the Senate Republican Leadership team in 2003 as Assistant Republican Leader. He is also seen as a contender in the Illinois governor election of 2006.
While he was chief budget negotiator for the Senate Republicans, Senator Rauschenberger negotiated multi-billion dollar state budgets, which have provided millions of dollars for schools, vital state programs, and local road and infrastructure improvements without a tax increase.
Senator Rauschenberger is still active in the budget process, serving on both Appropriations Committees and also the Environment & Energy Committee.
He also serves on the Economic and Fiscal Commission, the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, the Illinois Sports Authority Facilities Advisory Board, and the McCromick Place Advisory Board.
Senator Rauschenberger is recognized for his advocacy for state taxpayers, supporting statewide tax caps and increasing the income tax exemption. His work on the Environment and Energy Committee is highlighted by his leadership is areas such as electrical and telecommunications deregulation.
He attended District U-46 public schools, was a National Merit Finalist, and is a graduate of the College of William and Mary.
Senator Rauschenberger is a native of Elgin, IL. He is a full-time legislator and resides in Elgin with his wife, Betty and their two children.
