Studio apartments are small, single-level living quarters intended for use by an individual or a few roommates (but rarely more than that). They are designed around relatively large central rooms incorporating the features of a living room, dining room, and kitchen. There are usually one or two bedrooms, each of which probably has its own en-suite-style bathroom.
Studio apartments are often rented by young people and those with low or unsteady income. Typically rented on a month-to-month basis, they are ideal for college students and other young people who have recently left home.
Note that the term "apartment" is an Americanism, and is not used in the UK and Commonwealth countries.
