Powiat of Sucha Beskidzka in
Sucha Beskidzka county (Polish: powiat suski) is a county (powiat) in the Lesser Poland Voivodship (southern Poland).
Capital: Sucha Beskidzka, 9737 inhabitants (2002)
Area: 685.75 sq. km
Population: 81,402 inhabitans (2002)
Beside the capital other towns are Makow Podhalanski and Jordanow.
History
Sucha Beskidzka county existed between 1956 and 1975, then dissolved and shared between two voivodships: Bielsko-Biala Voivodship and Nowy Sacz Voivodship. Created again in 1999.
Geography
The county is located in the mountainous are of the Beskidy Mountains. Its highest point Babia Gora (1725 m) is since 1954 a national park and Biosphere Reserve.
This area is becoming more and more popular touristic area with the ski centre in Zawoja.
