Suffield Academy is a coeducational preparatory school located in Suffield, Connecticut, USA. It was founded in 1833.
As is the case with many New England boarding schools, and other elite secondary educational institutions worldwide, Suffield seeks to send its graduates to top rated colleges and universities within its borders or beyond. Suffield has a successful record in placement in the US Ivy League institutions and other top American colleges such as Amherst, and Northwestern University.
It is notable that institutions like Suffield often have long-term relationships with faculties at the elite universities. A combination of rigorous multi-disciplined education of students, immersion in the culture of excellence afforded to the boarding students and familial expectations of students achieving within an expected framework defines the product of the academy.
According to Suffield, in the school year starting in 2004, 400 students attend the academy, 240 matriculating as boarding students with boys slightly outnumbering girls overall. The school claims diversity to the extent that 16 different nationalities encompass the student population.
12 dormitories on campus house the boarding students with 90 faculty members serving as dormitory and student advisors as well as teachers and athletics coaches.
