Super Strat - Definition

Super Strat is a name for a design of electric guitars. Generally, they share several characteristics:

• The shape of the body resembles that of a Fender Stratocaster, but is usually more slender with thinner and deeper cutaways, sometimes with pointy ends, generally creating a more 'aggressive' look than the original Strat
• 24 frets (the standard Stratocaster has only 22)
• A Floyd Rose double-locking tremolo mechanism
• An improved neck construction method
• Humbucking pickups in addition to single-coils (the Stratocaster only has single-coils)

At times even guitar synthesizers (such as some Casio synths) meeting these basic criteria are also called super strat.

The first super strats were made by Grover Jackson in 1982.
