Susanna Hoffs (born January 17, 1959) was a vocalist and rhythm guitarist for the Bangles. Although the band did not have a set lead vocalist, Susanna was perceived by casual fans to be "the singer" of the Bangles after "Walk Like an Egyptian" hit #1. The problem was compounded by the fact that she was several inches shorter than the other members of the band and therefore stood significantly in front of them in publicity photos. This perception created tension within the band that eventually led to its breakup.
After the Bangles broke up in 1989, she released two solo albums, When You're a Boy and Susanna Hoffs. She is married to Jay Roach, director of the Austin Powers movies. The Rickenbacker guitar company issued a Susanna Hoffs model during the 1980s. She starred in the movie The Allnighter, which was directed by her mother and also featured Joan Cusack.
