A switch pylon is a pylon which carries on its crossbar a circuit breaker which can be operated by a long stick from the ground. A switch pylon is a special form of anchor pylon. It is used for switching off from powerline branches with voltages below 50kV. The conductors are nearly always arranged in a single level at switch pylons. For voltages over 50 kilovolts circuit breakers are too big for mounting on pylons, so switch pylons are not used for higher voltages.
